How to stop procrastinating-steps to stop procrastination

Since I was in high school, procrastination has been my ultimate escape. I vividly recall being assigned research projects with a four-month deadline. That wasn’t assigned, in my opinion; it was just a courtesy announcement. So I put it off until someone reminded me a few days before the deadline (I won’t deny that I still procrastinate from time to time). In the end, I had to deal with multiple topic rejections as well as a great deal of stress. It was a humiliation in front of my friends and professor. I’ve been thinking about how to stop procrastinating since that day.

Procrastination meaning in English

Have you ever wanted to do nothing but sit in your chair and scroll through all of your social media accounts throughout the day? I’ve had a handful of such days. Even when I was writing this, I believe I procrastinated three or four times. I always have a hard time deciding where to begin. Procrastination is simply the act of delaying important tasks in pursuit of less important ones. When you procrastinate, you tend to postpone your work for a later date.

How to stop procrastinating?

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to overcoming procrastination. If you ask around, the answer to the question “How can I stop procrastinating?” will vary. Finding your motivation and pushing it towards an imaginary outcome is the only way to come close to stopping it. You’ll have to keep asking yourself questions on a regular basis. As an example if you need to finish a task but have been putting it off. Consider the significance of the task at hand. Why do you find it necessary to do it? What will the work’s outcome be? Is it likely to have a good impact on your future? If you know the answers to all of these questions, you’ll have the motivation you need to stop procrastinating and get things done.

How can students stop procrastinating?

Being a student is not easy, and it may be extremely stressful at times. Students are notorious for being lazy and procrastinating. It may have a negative effect on students, affecting their grades, self-confidence, and even mental health. So, how can students get rid of their procrastination habits?

There are several methods to make it stop, the first and most important of which is to connect the task to their personal level. As a student, you should be able to provide significance to your assignments; if that isn’t enough, split your work into manageable portions. Begin gradually and work your way through each task one at a time. Trying to get everything done at the same time will simply add to your stress.

Humans are driven by a desire to avoid suffering and move in the direction of pleasure.  You should have more emotional discipline as an adult. You should be able to concentrate on goals rather than trivial details. Because this is the most important and mature stage of life, every adult should have the ability to motivate themselves to be positive. However, in most of our lives, this is not an ideal solution. So, what should be done?

  • Analyze why you are putting off a high-priority activity.
  • Keep in mind the promise you made when you agreed to take on the tasks.
  • Focus solely on the outcome and goal of the tasks.
  • Give more time to your creative side and try to develop more good habits.

Begin with a small habit and repeat it every day. Even if it is as simple as brushing your teeth before bed   or reading one page from one of your favorite books, it will help increase focus.

What is the first step to stopping procrastination?

The first rule, in my opinion, is to understand the importance of the job at hand. If you can connect and give yourself a compelling purpose to work on anything, you will have more than enough drive to complete the assignment on time. Let’s just assume that the importance or value of a job is proportionate to its completion. Meaning, if something is extremely important, you will undoubtedly motivate yourself to overcome your procrastination and complete the task on time. Or you can always consider the 2-minute rule.

How to stop procrastinating and be productive?

steps to stop procrastinating and be productive

People who know me well have noticed a significant change in me over the last few months. One of my friends has asked me how I manage to publish regular blogs without being fatigued or anxious. Well, I didn’t have a correct answer to his questions, but I believe that my interest in blogging and desire for financial independence motivates me to push my limits. If you have an interest in something, you will naturally develop a sense of enthusiasm for that subject. So, all you have to do is find or develop an interest in the tasks at hand. Now, this is completely a trick to train your mindset; if you want to know about practical ways to deal with it, here are some steps I’ve been taking for a few months.

A) Eliminating your distraction:

Just try to keep your day simple, and don’t overburden yourself with work. If something is causing distraction, keep fighting to get rid of it. As much as technology has been a thriving factor in our lives, social media has taken over in every way. Social media is and will always be a good platform for everything, but if you’ve become addicted to it and it’s become a major distraction from your goals, you should consider using it less. What you must do is constantly keep yourself motivated if you become distracted. Always keep the purpose of your goal or tasks in mind.

B) Multitasking:

Multitasking is never a good idea; it will crush your creativity. When you’re multitasking, you can never give your best effort. Even if you have a busy day, try breaking down your tasks into smaller, more manageable pieces. Make a schedule and stick to it; I assure you that you will not be complaining about your hectic schedule.

C) Schedule your tasks:

Working without a strategy is a foundation for failure. Many people procrastinate primarily due to a lack of job discipline; they do not consider pre-planning. Make a schedule for your activities that you can stick to. If you have a proper channel, it will boost your focus and provide a more favorable working environment for you.

D) Give yourself a deadline:

When I’m too lazy to work, I stuff myself with extra work and assign deadlines to each portion. So that I keep reminding myself of the time constraint and stay focused on my work without distractions. However, you should not overload the slot without any breaks. Make time for yourself as well. You will be more productive as a result, without compromising your creative mindset.

E) Reward yourself after every tasks:

After completing each activity or assignment, you should reward yourself with something that perfectly complements your interest. You could have ice cream or order a pizza or may be go on a drive. You may be wondering how rewarding oneself has anything to do with increased productivity and less procrastination. The answer is simple: whenever you reward yourself with something, even a small amount of enjoyment can bring delight to your soul. It will continue to motivate you, resulting in improved performance.

Best How to stop procrastinating books:

Many people consider books to be their best friends; they provide an ideal getaway from a stressful life. Let me explain why reading books is one of the most beneficial habits one can develop. It’s also the most beneficial remedy you’ll ever have. A book not only delivers knowledge but also informs you about various life possibilities; you can read about varied personal experiences and incorporate them into your wisdom. Even reading one page before bedtime can have a significant impact on your life.

So, consider making a list of the best books on the market and making them the source of your motivation in life. Here are some of the best books on the subject of “how to stop procrastinating.”

a) The now habit:

Dr. Neil Fiore wrote this book and published it back in 1988.The key difference in how it attempts to eliminate procrastination from your life is that it focuses on the potential benefits rather than obsessing over avoiding your distracting habits. The Now Habit is an old-school book that compensates for its lack of scientific evidence with counter-intuitive strategies like the guilt-free plan, worrying work, and three-dimensional thinking.

Dr. Neil Fiore has even created his own program to assist people in implementing the book’s strategies.

b) The procrastination equation:

Piers Steel’s book digs deeper into the science of motivation. Piers’ entire procrastination strategy is based on motivation. His motivation equation which explains why we are driven to pursue an action or not, is at the heart of the book. We procrastinate when our motivation for an important activity is lower than our motivation for distraction (for example, scrolling social media, binge-watching web series, or chatting with friends).

We’ll procrastinate as long as our motivation for other activities is higher than our motivation for the activities we’re putting off.

The 2- Minute rule:

I wish I had the guts to do it

The rule is simple: it should take no more than two minutes to form a new habit. (The name of this method was inspired by David Allen, an author and productivity guru who has his own 2-minute rule for increasing productivity: “If it takes less than two minutes, do it now.”)

You can break any habit or tasks of yours into the 2-minute rule.

  • Read every day before bed can become “read one page before bed every night”.
  • Study before exams becomes “take out your notes”.
  • Start your own business becomes “do your research on business”.
  • Get up early in the morning “becomes sleep early during night”.
  • Do your bed becomes “fold your blanket”.

If you keep trying it every day, the 2-minute strategy will simply become a daily ritual of a larger routine. It is by far the most practical life hack you could ever imagine.
